RIPOTS : BA 01
Prepare and set up plant and machinery

aim

The large machines capable of developing pressures of about 3000 tons and producing bales of varying lengths are mounted above ground and because of their physical height, require staircases to reach control cabins. Cranes are used to load the feed box. Generally the operator in his control cabin will have a good view of the whole baling operation.

Relevant Training Session: H & S at work, Safety rules and procedures, machine familiarisation, checking the energy source, regular maintenance.

Learning Outcome: This unit is designed to confirm that the candidate is able to prepare and set up plant and machinery. It confirms that the candidate is able to carry out pre-shift checks and record and report the findings. It ensures that the candidate is able to check the machine’s energy source according to manufacturers’ instructions and comply with relevant H & S legislation. Similarly, the unit ensures that the candidate is able to check that relevant equipment for the plant is confirmed as fit for purpose.

Assessment: Trainees will be encouraged to build their skills by guided practice, culminating in a formal practical assessment, together with a knowledge questionnaire.
