Lift and transfer load to its designated location

aim

Relevant Training Session: Load weight assessment, de-stacking and stacking various types of pallet in various locations, transporting loads over varied surfaces and terrain, unloading and loading road vehicles and handling awkward loads.

Learning Outcome: This unit is designed to confirm that the candidate is able to safely lift and transport articles and loads of varying sizes and weights over a range of distances and ground conditions within the capability of the specific machine in use, whilst using the machine’s controls with sympathy and care. It ensures that the candidate is able to work safely in the company of others and is aware of the impact that his/her operations will have on others. It ensures that the candidate is able to monitor the equipment to maintain safety throughout the activity and that he/she is able to carry out the operation safely.

Assessment: Trainees will be encouraged to build their skills by guided practice, culminating in a formal practical assessment, together with a knowledge questionnaire.

Outline of relevant sessions

• Assessment of load weights and location of information. • De-stacking and stacking various pallets and loads in open and restricted areas. • De-stacking and stacking from bulk stacks from various heights in open and restricted areas. • De-stacking and stacking cup-post pallets and stillages from various levels in open and restricted areas.. • Unloading and loading road vehicles from ground level (with and without the use of side shift). • Handling awkward loads.
